Not Fade Away by Rebecca Alexander
I stumbled across this book, Not Fade Away, while searching for something to fill my time with while on break. This memoir was a pleasant surprise that is worth sharing with others who are interested in disability studies or the world of our senses. Rebecca Alexander has Usher syndrome which means that she is slowly losing her hearing and vision, and has been losing these senses throughout much of her life. She eloquently puts these loses into words and also comments on the futility of such efforts in hindsight. I really appreciated the way she presents the role her family and friends play in her capacity to have a fulfilling and rich life.
